Any chaos will be in Kent ( and other UK lorry parks )

The UK Government  narrative is clear. If there's friction exporting to the EU and it's "all a bit slipshod and disorganised and there's therefore chaos because of failure of the EU to plan" then HMG is going to blame the direct consequences of leaving the Customs Union and Single Market on the EU. We've left the EU and at the end of the year we exit the Withdrawal Agreement's Transition Period that's been in place since the 1st of Feb. During the Transition Period we continued to be in the Customs Union and Single Market although no longer an EU member. That's what's kept our imports and exports flowing freely since then. It means we're yet to feel the practical effects of Brexit. Next year the EU will continue to exist and operate its Customs Union and Single Market. With or without an FTA, as we'll be outside the Customs Union and Single Market and a third country, all our exports to the EU will be subject to checks at the border. Wh

I hate showers!

This morning I took my son to nursery school and then headed off to work. It was damp when I left so I kept the top up. However it was sunny for most of the journey to work. Not fair! (Life is *so* harsh!)

Mobile Again!

After many months of intermittent starting problems I've finally had the immobiliser replaced by Car & Bike Installations Ltd . From time to time, sometimes when the car was hot, sometimes when the car was cold, it would not start. I'd turn the alarm and immobiliser off, put the key in and turn it to the crank position. The fuel pump would prime but the engine would not turn over. At first, not knowing the problem I'd lock the car again and repeat the process. Sometimes this would work and sometimes it would not. Typically, if I left the car for 30mins and came back to it, it would start. After much frustration I discovered that a firm slap to the underside of the passenger dash at the same time as I held the key in the crank position would reliably start the engine. Some investigation and research followed. The only significant component involved in starting the engine in the passenger side of the dash is the immobiliser unit. There's a relay in the immobiliser tha

What a wet bank holiday weekend!

It's been absolutely soaking since Wednesday. Grotty weather pretty much every day and very wet over the three days of the bank holiday weekend. This morning was dry but for technical reasons (full boot) I was not able to drive into work top down. This evening is damp with showers so I'll be going home top up. What's happened to the summer?

A Battery of Problems!

Well, on Thursday night the TVR would not start. Serves me right for have a TVR you might say. The problem was that when I tried to start the car the starter motor would engage but the engine would not turn over. A jump start from a cow-orker was needed to get me home. Suspecting that I'd left my lights on as I had the day before, when I got home I connected up the battery charger. On Friday morning the engine just turned over, caught and I was off to work. I managed to get home on Friday evening with much the same problem. I then put the battery on charge over the weekend. On Monday morning the charger was still telling me that the battery was not fully charged so I started to suspect the battery. I did managed to get to and from work but only just. Tuesday was much the same. Once home on Tuesday evening I went and got a new battery from Halfords because they were open and had the right size (072) in stock. I then charged it up over night in the garage. This morning the charger s

Love a duck

It's great weather for ducks, lawns and garden plants. Not so great for driving top down. Oh well.

A world of dull

The weather has continued to be dull this week. Sunday was wet and appart from a bit of sun this morning it's been dull when it's not been raining. Thus the TVR top continues to stay up.

Still Dull

Friday's weather was not great so all the driving was top-up. Today has been a very black and blue day. Lots of rain with sun in between.

Dull

This morning was dull so I drove to work top-up. It's currently raining so I expect I'll be driving home top top too.

Cracking Ball!

Well, the 159th Royal Caledonian Ball was great fun even if I do say so myself! You can see some pictures here and here (do an active search for 'Caledonian'). Saturday was a quiet day as two tired parents stayed home with a 3 and a half year old who had not been dancing all night. Sunday was better. We had a friend over for a playdate and the kids managed to tire each other out while the parents watched. Monday was wet and filled with DIY - more book shelves. Meanwhile, on the TVR front it's been wet. Both Tuesday and Wednesday have been dull and damp so the top has stayed up.

Bah!

After three lovely days of top down motoring this morning was dull so I drove into work top down. Now the sun has burnt off the cloud and we have a lovely spring day. I expect I'll be going home top down. Tomorrow, I'm not going to work as I'm taking the day off to attend the 159 th Royal Caledonian Ball . I'm looking forward to it immensely.
