Any chaos will be in Kent ( and other UK lorry parks )

The UK Government  narrative is clear. If there's friction exporting to the EU and it's "all a bit slipshod and disorganised and there's therefore chaos because of failure of the EU to plan" then HMG is going to blame the direct consequences of leaving the Customs Union and Single Market on the EU. We've left the EU and at the end of the year we exit the Withdrawal Agreement's Transition Period that's been in place since the 1st of Feb. During the Transition Period we continued to be in the Customs Union and Single Market although no longer an EU member. That's what's kept our imports and exports flowing freely since then. It means we're yet to feel the practical effects of Brexit. Next year the EU will continue to exist and operate its Customs Union and Single Market. With or without an FTA, as we'll be outside the Customs Union and Single Market and a third country, all our exports to the EU will be subject to checks at the border. Wh...

Linksys AG241V2 and VPNs

We bought a Linksys AG241 ADSL router as we liked the fact that it supports VPN endpoints and costs about £50. From the website link above:

"It can also serve as a DHCP Server, and supports up to five VPN tunnel endpoints, so you can securely connect to corporate networks."

I dutifully downloaded and checked the manual and it showed the VPN configuration so we paid our money and waited.

When the unit arrived I was pleased to see that it's a new and improved V2 unit. Well, I was pleased until I set it up and went looking for the VPN configuration page. It's simply not there! The manual that comes on the CD with the V2 router does not appear to have changed and still documents how to do the VPN configuration.

The manual has a 'Security' tab and the tab has two sub options 'Firewall' and 'VPN'. The router has the 'Security' tab but there are no sub options, you get what appears to be the 'Firewaill' section. Interestingly enough, the 'Firewall' section does allow you to control IPSec passthrough - you can allow or disallow it.

I pondered for a bit, put in a support call to Linksys, and pondered some more. As each page of configuration has it's own URL I thought I'd make up a few and try them:
  • http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/vpn.asp - got me no where

  • http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/ipsec.asp - got me the missing VPN configuration page

There are a couple of little oddities. The VPN can either be 'undefined' or 'disabled'. A text symbol lookup error I exepct - you want 'undefined'. Also you have to use the advanced page to set all the settings as some of the drop down menu's on the main page don't have any selectable values.

Odd. I do wonder if they've dropped the VPN functionality to make us buy a more expensive router or simply messed up the creation of the V2 firmware. OTOH, the BEFVP41 Cable/DSL router retails for a similar price and the Linksys website claims support for 72 VPN tunnels and retails for about £40.

We had the same problem, when we contacted Linksys support they denied the existance of version 2! Then they said get another one and it will be ok...NOT!
Havnt tried the manual URL to get the VPN config up yet.

I have an AG241V2 with firmware version 2.01.00.

It has a VPN page on the Security menu (ipsec.asp) with a whole load of settings ; IPSec, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP Passthrugh; Local and Remote secure groups; Key management; and an Advanced Settings tab which brings up a page (ipsecadv.asp) with Tunnel Encryption Modes; NAT Traversal etc.
